Close your eyes and take a deep breathe. Can you smell it in the air? The sugary fumes of energy drinks, unshowered bodies of hardcore fans,  the sweet garlicy smell of delivery pizza... war is coming, the proportions of which we have never seen before. It's going to be huge. It's going to be bloody. It's also going to be one of the most exciting events in PlanetSide history, so it's high time someone discussed how the average soldier can get the most out of it.

In case your last cranial nanite reconstruction happened during a power outage, what I'm talking about is the Ultimate Empire Showdown. This event is expected to be the greatest war PlanetSide 2 has seen thus far. We have three top-tier gaming gurus leading each empire in a grand battle, working together with some of the most organized outfits across the servers. No specifics on time and location yet, but do keep an eye out because the action is sure to be solid.

Why You Should Get Excited

Let's start with the fact PlanetSide 2 is unique compared to the average FPS for two main reasons: size and community. I mean, yes, it also has deeper and more purposeful gameplay, and sure, it's as gorgeous as the first snowy day of the Canadian Rocky's, but that's not important at the moment. Right now we're concentrating on the scale of battle and the community's ability to organize. So, take these two reasons and consider how they apply to this event:

We will have tons of dedicated players ready for action, lead by some of the most amazing community members, and have a glorious battle the likes of which Auraxis has yet to see. It's basically two of the game's best features times ten.

Are you excited yet? Can you imagine the rows of Galaxies gliding through the air and snake-like columns of heavy armor? Of course you can! Because you're the kind of soldier that loves PlanetSide 2 so much, when you are not playing it you are reading short articles about it. Next, you need to figure out how to really make a difference in the battle ahead. It's not going to be a walk in the park, you know.

How You Should Get Ready

You're locked and loaded and ready to go. You've got your trusty rifle, your large rocket launcher, your speedy Lightning, and – oh wait, they have thirty tanks followed by a flock of jets starving for a poor schmuck like you. Yikes. This is going to take some planning to really get the most out of. So how do we plan for an army that literally blocks out the sun? Well, let's start by talking to your outfit leader. Make sure he or she keeps an eye out for the date announcement and marks it in the calendar. The more people you can bring to this battle, the more likely your empire is to win. Don't have an outfit? Now might be a good time to start looking for one. Regardless of the event, in a game like this you will gain a lot by having friends to play with.

Remember, this is the battle that represents your empire. Victory holds more than mere cert points; it will grant your empire the bragging rights of a true champion. It's also a chance to play with some of the most amazing individuals the gaming community has to offer. So don't get lazy or show up late. Talk to your friends, talk to your outfit, and tune in next week!  This is the one battle you do not want to miss.
